A concussion is a clinical condition resulting from impact to the head or neck which causes a temporary change in brain function. For most, symptoms of concussion resolve within two weeks. However, if symptoms continue, Persistent Concussion Syndrome can develop, resulting in ongoing problems with headaches, balance and concentration.
Every concussion has a unique set of symptoms and presentation. A concussion does not appear on regular imaging such as MRI or CAT scans and is instead diagnosed based on signs and symptoms of injured and sensitized brain tissue. These can include, but are not limited to:
- Dizziness and balance problems
- Neck pain
- Reduced memory and concentration
- Motion sensitivity
- Sleep disturbance and fatigue
